Harvest Festival Assembly Letter

25th September 2015

Dear Parents / Carers

Re: Harvest Festival

On Thursday 1st October we will be having our Harvest Assembly for the whole school.

We have made numerous enquiries to collect items to support the Syria Crisis but unfortunately this has proved problematic to arrange for a collection locally.

Therefore this year we are going to support a local charity The Christian Kitchen.  Every night the charity serves a warm, nourishing meal to homeless or destitute people in the local area.  Unpaid volunteers from over 15 churches of all denominations donate food and their time to this worthy cause.

If you would like to donate an item for the assembly we will be collecting tinned food, pasta, rice and any non-perishable food items on Thursday 1st October.

Thank you for your support.

Yours faithfully

Dear Parents / Carers

Re: Visit to Verulamium Museum, St. Albans – Year 3 Ladybirds

We have arranged a trip to the Verulamium Museum at St. Albans on Tuesday 13th October 2015 for Year 3 to enrich the children’s learning on the Romans in Britain and foster even more enthusiasm.

The children will be travelling by coach, leaving at 8.30am and returning to school by 4.00pm depending on traffic. The cost of the trip will be £19.00 per child; this covers the cost of transport and entry to the museum. This is to be paid online on ParentPay, if you need to pay at a paypoint, please see school office. Please complete the tear-off permission slip below and send it, into school by Monday 5th October 2015. Please see me if this payment creates difficulties.

The children will require a packed lunch and a drink. Also a drink for mid-morning. (Please do not send in any glass bottles or cans). If your child is entitled to a free school meal and you would like the kitchen to provide a packed lunch please inform the school office 3 days prior to the trip.

Children may bring some spending money with them, as there is a shop at the museum. Please ensure spending money is in a sealed named envelope and is kept to a maximum of £5 per child. Children should wear their school uniform for this trip.

Parent helpers are needed for this trip, to supervise a group of children, under the guidelines of the class teacher. If you are able to accompany us, your help will be greatly appreciated. Let me know as soon as possible, if you are able to help. I will let you know after 5th October 2015 whether I need you (we sometimes get too many volunteers).

Yours faithfully

Mrs L Coppin

Open Evening - 29th September & 1 October 2015

Dear Parents and Carers,

We will be holding an Open Evening for parent/carers on Tuesday 29th September and Thursday 1st October. This is an opportunity for you to meet with members of staff and discuss your child’s progress.  All parents/carers are invited to attend the meetings and children in KS2 are invited to join their parents in the discussion of their progress.

Interviews will be scheduled for ten minutes each and we would appreciate your support in keeping to the time allocated.  We will make every effort to keep to appointment times.  If you need longer than the time available (or wish to discuss a particularly sensitive issue), an appointment should be made for another day at a mutually convenient time, this avoids frustrations later on in the evening when those extra few minutes add up!

Class teachers will be situated in the Hall, in order to allow you to browse through your child’s books in the classroom until your appointment.

Please complete the attached form and return it to your child’s class teacher by the latest Tuesday 22nd September.  Class teachers will set the appointments to the times requested (or as close as possible).  Teachers will put a list of appointment times on the classroom door by the end of the day on Thursday 24th September.

Yours sincerely

Mrs A Bull

World Peace Day - 21st September 2015

9/9/2015

Click here to download PDF of letter

Dear Parents and Carers,

As part of our annual celebration of World Peace Day and our work on SMSC (Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Education), we have arranged for an assembly led by a Buddhist teacher.  She will talk about not reacting when we are angry and being calm and peaceful.  She will also tell us a Buddhist story.

Years 4, 5 and 6 will then have the opportunity to take part in a short sample meditation session to help them understand peace and calm.

This is a great opportunity for children to hear from someone outside the school and to deepen their understanding of the meaning of peace.  When we teach children about a religion we always make it clear that they are learning about what some people believe, but should make up their own minds about what they themselves believe in.

We have been asked to make a donation to the Duldzin Dragpa Kadampa Buddhist Centre, as a contribution towards the teacher’s time.  If you would like to donate a small amount, please send this in with your child in a labeled envelope before 21st September.

Thank you for your support.

Kind regards
