RE: Y6 Residential (3rd-5th July 2017)
Dear Parents/ Carers,
We are delighted to inform you of our plans for our Year 6 residential trip to York which will be taking place in July 2017. Residential courses organised by the school are an optional, but invaluable, opportunity to enrich learning and broaden experience. Pupils benefit greatly from these experiences, both educationally and socially, and we feel certain that this trip will create these opportunities as well as offering the chance for children to have fun together and enjoy each other’s company before they move on to secondary schools.
We would like to offer this opportunity to all of Year 6. The trip will take place from Monday 3rd- Wednesday 5th July 2017. The children will travel to and from York by train and stay in central group accommodation in the city. The approximate cost of the visit will be £150 (final costs will be calculated once numbers are confirmed and bookings are made). We want all children to be able to attend this fantastic opportunity so if finance is a concern, please come and speak with me.
Below are the aims and activities of the visit:
- To develop collaborative learning skills through team work.
- To develop important life skills such as managing daily routines independently, preparing meals, decision making and responsibility.
- To develop geographical knowledge and understanding.
- To develop an understanding of British history.
York is a city steeped in history which the children will have the opportunity to explore. The central city is compact and easily accessible. Children will have the opportunity to:
- Visit York Minster
- Walk the city walls
- Explore the Castle and York Museums to find out more about local history, including the Viking era
- Complete a walking tour/treasure hunt
- Play football/games
Full payment must be made by 5th June 2017 via the Parent Pay website but to secure a place we require a £20 deposit by 25th January 2017; please speak with me if you have any concerns regarding this payment.
If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact me. This is a really exciting opportunity for our Y6 pupils and I hope that you will give careful consideration to your decision. Please return the slip below by 25th January.
